The caffine failed, and it seemed that I was going in a downward spiral toward crashing. I could barely keep my eyes open as I sat down in class. My teacher handed me a slide show of papers, and I merely looked at them, then back up to her. I could tell that she was mildly amused by my lack of alterness. I blinked then handed them off to my other classmates. The last thing I remembered was doing that, and the next was sitting across from Lord Noctem.

"Taloa?" he looked at me mildly, surprised. I was of course confused by it.

"Yes?" I had questioned, only to meet his gaze more fully.

"What are you doing here?"

I laughed then, thinking it silly. "What do you mean? Weren't we suspposed to meet again?"

He of course shook his head, and I noticed that he thought I didn't understand at all what was going on.

"What?" my voice seemed alittle different, and I tried not to seem too nervous.

"It's nothing." he smiled.

I raised my eye brows. "Okay."

He held his hands out to me, and strangely I took them in my own. They were as cold as the night before, but I really didn't mind. I only took them for a moment though, then I retracted my hands. I wasn't one to shun away physical contact, but I firmly believed that energy transfers and you never want someone that you don't know transfering unwanted energy.

"Is there something you want to ask me?"

He drew my eyes to look up at him. I nodded and i had been thinking about this for a long time.

"I want to know, if you can make another vampyre....How do you do it?"

His eyebrows creased in thought, and he didn't talk for a long time. Then....

"There are somethings that aren't for human's eyes, but I will let you talk to someone that I have changed..."

My eyes went wide, so it was true that you could make another vampyre. Just as I was thinking about the hollywood way of making a vampire, he stopped me.

"Although, making a vampyre is not exactly how it's done. It's more like awakening, you are brought out of the sheild that dulls your senses. Whatever you had protecting you from it before, is completely and utterly stripped. It is not something that everyone can deal with. So, I warn you and saying you don't want to choose this path unless you mean to make it for eternity."

I was taken aback, Lord Noctem had made it perfectly clear to me that vampyres weren't immortal.

"What do you mean? I thought you weren't immortal?"

He shook his head again, "No baby, but our souls are immortal. It's the body that wears down, not the soul. And once you choose this path, you alter your soul, not just the body."

He then stood up, gestering for me to follow him. I stood up and it seemed as if I was floating. We went across the bar to this young woman that sat there chatting with some friends. She wasn't much taller than me, she had blonde hair with red highlights, it went to about her neck. She had beautiful brown eyes, and a nice face in general. Her skin was ghostly, but it was still beautiful none the less. I could feel a touch of jealousy set in on me.

Lord Noctem greeted her, and then bent down to kiss her on the cheek affectionately. She laughed at him, then looked over at me. I smiled the best I could not wanting to start any sort of confrontation with someone I didn't know.

Yet, as I reached out to take her hand, it seemed that my world was rocking.

"TALOA!" I heard someone screaming at me.

I jerked my head up, and was surprised to see that the classroom was completely empty and my teacher looked rather pissed that I wouldn't leave. I didn't even say anything to her. I merely jumped out of my seat, got my things then headed out the door.

The silence is broken

16:02 Apr 22 2007
Times Read: 588

"Isn't there anything that you wish to know?" he broke the silence after a while.

"Energy, can you see it?" I turned to see him looking all over the place, possibly at things that I couldn't see.

"yes, I can." He was staring at me now, but not really at me just right above my head.

"What does it look like?"

He blinked then focused his eyes.

"Well, it depends on if the person is healthy, their moods, if they are a negative person or a positive person..."

I nodded slowly, making sure that all the pain from my headache was gone and was satisfied that nothing was stabbing me. I looked around and tilted my head to one side.

"Well, what sorts of colors can you see?"

"Energy is all sorts of colors, it's black and white with blue. If a person has bright blue energy, then they are healthy and positive. If it's darker, or dulled. Then it's the exact opposite. Just with like everything else people have different energy." He folded his hands together then, continued.

"People have energy signatures, not one alike at all. Since most of us can sense people we can go off of this to track."

My eyebrows shot up, "So if I was to leave, you could track me?"

He gave me a look like he thought that I was either very stupid, or I hadn't been listening at all.

"Do you need that to be tested?"

I shook my head no, quickly. I had enough with the other demostrations that he had showed me. I didn't need him tracing me, thinking from my last experience of fainting it would probably end up with me having a heart attack.

He then started to laugh at me, and I couldn't help but join him nervously. After long, I sighed and yawned knowing that I needed to get home.

"Well, it's been awesome talking to you. But, I must be going home." I stretched then stood up, then turned to shake his hand.

He stared at my hand for a moment, then took it and I shook it softly. Then let go, realizing that his hand was still very cold.

"I hope to see you some other time...Ryu." I was hesitant to call him that just in case he decided against it.

Ryu stood and showed me to the door. I was surprised to see that my car and my things were all right outside the house. I turned to look at him confused.

"You don't think that I was going to leave your things behind?"

"I didn't expect you to drive my car over here and gather my things." I smiled, and was happy that I wouldn't have to walk to my car.

"No, baby it would be a little rediculous to leave your stuff just laying about. I may run this hood, but there is still people here that would steal, or do harm." He walked me to my car then.

I got in waving to him a good by then drove off, easily finding my way back to the freeway. I looked down at the clock and realized that it was almost 3 in the morning. So much for sleep before I had to get up for my classes. It looked like another one of those days to struggle through, and hope to god that caffine would work.

In the house

00:48 Apr 21 2007
Times Read: 595

"Taloa!" I heard someone whispering, a hand sliding up and down my cheek trying to get me to wake. I moaned softly trying to turn away, the hand was extremely cold. I shuddered and the hand was pulled away, I turned to open my eyes.

I knew instantly that I was no longer in the bar, infact this wasn't a public place at all. I blinked again to clear my vision, and stared up into the eyes of Lord Noctem. He looked rather upset, but no fear showed in his gaze. I was confused as to why exactly he would be upset, then the memory replayed. I had fainted shortly after he had started beating on another guy for threatening someone from his hood.

I move to sit up slowly, but couldn't from the massive headache that was starting up. I yelped softly, then just laid there with my temples throbbing.

"Do you always faint when you see a fight break out?" He was teasing me now, and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Sure, if you're a vampyre." I looked over at him, and I could see him smiling.

Then his face got serious, "I don't like it when someone comes into my hood, and threatens to hit a woman. It's disrespectful and I don't put up with any bull shit."

I nodded once, but didn't do it again realizing that if I did the pain shot down my back. He saw me twitch and stood up.

"I'll be right back." He then exited the room.

I looked around the place I was in, it was a living room. It was like any normal living room, there was a couch, love seat, a lazy boy and of course a coffee table. I looked over to the area were of course the TV was and found toys all over the place. I raised my eye brows in curiousity. Did Lord Noctem have children?

My question was answered as I looked at the pictures that littered the walls, and the coffee table. There was pictures of children, women, and some men.

As soon as I was done looking around, I realized that he had returned standing in the door way watching me. I smiled over at him.

"Sorry, I just had to check my surroundings." he shrugged alittle, but didn't seem too annoyed that I had been exaiming his personal space.

He walked over, and handed me a glass of water. I attempted again to sit up, the pain dulled alittle. I took a sip of the water and felt my head begin to clear.

"Here take these" he handed me two little blue pills.

I looked at them and recongized them as regular asprin. I smiled at him for how greatful I was. I threw the pills to the back of my throat then swallowed a gulp of water. I hated taking pills, and the best I knew was to get it over with quickly.

After I had finished my glass of water, it seemed that the medication was taking affect. When the pain had subsided, I slid my legs off the couch and sat there.

"I guess I should go home." but lord Noctem wasn't looking at me.

"I don't always open my house up to humans, but I didn't expect you to have such a reaction." He then looked back me.

"I wasn't trying to be an inconvenience. I turly am sorry Lord Noctem." I was puzzled as to why I was still here.

"You know you can call me Ryu, it's not like I call you by your screen name off of the internet." He raised his eyebrows at me.

"It's just that I thought that since I had requested to know your vampyre side of you, I should call you by that name." I leaned onto my knees.

Ryu sat down beside me, "Despite what you meant Taloa, I am still a vampyre either name you call me by."

It did make sense to me, I had been trying to separate the human side from the vampyre side. Yet, when you are one thing you can't be the other. It's sort of like a human being a witch. You didn't call that person human, you called them a witch because that is exactly what they are.

Ryu was a vampyre, and I was a human. We did have souls and were made the same way, but we were as different as day is to night.

I sat there comtemplating exactly what else to say, everytime I opened my mouth I couldn't. So I would shut it again, then open...still nothing.

The senses are clear

17:59 Apr 20 2007
Times Read: 608

I sat there for a long time as he continued to talk not watching the time. I couldn't bring myself to leave, the magnitism these people have. I was so lost in thoughts about the thirst that I barely caught what he had to say next.

"Now it's true that we all have heightened senses, better hearing, eye sight, sense of smell, taste, touch." He waited for me to say something.

I blinked, "What?" I yawned then "Sorry."

I clumbsily wrote down what he had just said, realizing how tired I really was.

"So, you can hear better? But how much is better?"

He smiled, "I can hear my neighbor's music playing softly from next store. Would you like me to show you?"

I straightened myself now fully awake. "What do you mean?"

He tilted his head to listen into something, a couple was sitting on the other side of the room having a low discussion about something. I knew they were talking because I saw their lips moving, but not what they were saying. I bent over the table alittle to grasp just alittle bit of their voices, but nothing that could be made clear.

"I think we should stop seeing each other." Ryu was talking.

I turned looking at him, and then at the man's face. He looked almost disgusted and I could believe that the woman had said what Ryu was repeating.

"What fuck are you talking about bitch?" Ryu repeated again.

I tensed, I was getting alittle scared because I didn't ask for a demostration. I didn't want to know what was going on in their lives. Then Ryu's face darkened as if he had heard something he didn't like.

He didn't say a word to me, he merely stood up and walked over to the table. I had forgotten that everyone in this area was apart of Ryu's hood. If there had been a threat made to a woman, then he would most likely take care of it.

For a moment, the couple and him were just talking. Then the man stood up, not even reaching Ryu's height. In fact Ryu was atleast a head taller. I heard a growl come from Ryu, but it was not Ryu; it was Lord Noctem.

He reached forward and grabbed the man's throat. Then a second later the man was on the ground. Sure, Lord Noctem was fast but it was nothing like the movies had portrayed. He was quick enough that you couldn't stop him, but you could see him do the action.

He was squeezing the man's throat, and the woman sat there horrified of what was going on. I found myself unable to move, to tell him to stop, or to even get out of the bar myself. All I knew is that people were staring and not doing a thing.

It was an understood thing, if you came into Lord Noctem's hood you followed his rules. There was no threatening women, no disrespecting the people that ran businesses, and definately no drug dealing.

My mouth dropped this much I knew, but I felt as if all the air had been sucked out of the room. The next thing I knew is that it was very dark, and that I was falling.

Another meeting

02:26 Apr 20 2007
Times Read: 618

I stared out my window, and thought about the things that went on the other night. I wasn't one to let myself become drawn to anyone person, for fear of rejection or hurt. I turned sitting down at my desk, papers sprawled all over it covering up what was underneath. What the papers had across them was the resources I had pulled to make this more than just about one persons thoughts over what a vampire turly was.

I rumaged through the stack, and found that the theories were still incomplete. The information pointed in so many different directions that it was confusing. Some of the information supported each other, were as others rejected.

I press my hands to my face, trying to figure out what exactly I'm going to do. I can't sit here, and try to build a paper off of facts that could be easily waved away. I needed something more concrete to get a good grade. My teacher wouldn't expect anything less than excellent from me, because writing is something that I do.

I put my hands on the desk, and look over at the clock, then down to my cell phone. I had to call Ryu, he was the only thing that could make it concrete. He was the only information I had to make my paper hold up against the facts that would suggest otherwise.

I grab my phone off of the nightstand and punch the numbers in, the phone rings a couple of times.

"Ryu?" I was unaccostumed to his human name, but I needed to use it first before switching.

"To whom am I speaking to?" His voice was low and deep, as if he was unsure if he should be talking to me.

"It's me, Taloa." I could hear some shuffling around on the other end, then a sigh.

"Hey, what's up kiddo?" Ryu sounded like he was trying to be an older brother type to me. It made me smile and I had to conceal a laugh, because for all the years there was between us I was no kiddo.

"I was looking through the information that I got, and it seems that none of it will hold up for my paper....is there anyway that you and I could meet somewhere?" I bit my lip almost certain that he would say no.

"How about back at the bar?" I could almost imagine that he was smiling, because I was curious.

I nodded as if he would see it, "Yeah, that would be fine. What time?"

I heard more shuffling, "What about at 10?"

I sighed with relief, it wouldn't be too late and I could get some sleep for my classes tomorrow. "Sure, I'll see you then."

"yeah, bye sweetheart." I was surprised by the last greeting, but I didn't allow any of that to show in my voice.

"Yeah, bye." I hung up the phone to gather my things up. I was almost in a rush, because I had thirty minutes to get to the inner city.

I pushed all my papers into my bag, and grabbed my tape recorder from my nightstand. I checked to see if I had any time left on the tape, and found that I had. I grabbed another tape just in case, you never know how long anyone is going to talk.

I rushed out of my house, and into my car reviving the engine then taking off into the night. I had to slow down when I found myself going almost 15 over the speed limit. I was trying to get there in time, but I didn't need a speeding ticket while I was at it!

Finally after what seemed like forever, I pulled into a parking spot and shut the car off. I grabbed my stuff locking the car and taking off in almost a run toward the bar. I could smell liquour when I got to the door and knew that there was alot of drunk people in there.

I showed the bouncer my ID, and walked in to look around the poorly lit room. I had to squint my eyes just to see what was going on around me. Ryu stood up from the back and I nodded in acknowledgement.

I made myself walk over, I didn't want it to seem like I was too eager to see him. I pulled up a chair infront of him, and smiled at him.

"So, what is it you want to know?" His gaze instantly caught my attention again. It was hard for me not to get sort of star struck by his eyes.

"Feeding, what do vampires do to get what they need?" I quickly took out my tape recorder, then pressed it on.

"Well, that depends really are we talking about psy vampires or sangine vampires?"

"How about you explain them both?" I looked at him for a moment, then took out a pad of paper with a pencil just to get down some other details that could be missed by a tape recorder.

"As with all vampires we have a defiency that makes us. We can't survive without that life source. We all have natural auras that extend outward looking for that energy source. Just like a plant, if you were to stick it in a dark area with one beam of light it would bend just to get what it needs." He stopped to take a sip of his drink.

"If a person who claims to be a vampire says that he can live without feeding, it's bull shit. No one can deny the thirst, even if you think you aren't feeding you really are. "

I nodded as I comprehended exactly what he was saying.

"A psy vampire just feeds of the energy around them, and they can feel everything that the person is feeling." I

I looked up in curiosity. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but where do you draw the line?"

"What do you mean?" he tilted his head in honest confusion.

"I mean were do you draw the line between an empathic person and a psy vampire?" I was honestly curious, because I was relatively sensitive to the emotions of others.

"Well, it all has to do with their need to feed...I mean any regular person can feed off another life source, but it's the need that draws the line. A sangine vampire needs the blood for the properities that it possesses." He stopped to make sure that I was getting this all down.

When I looked up for him to continue, he went on.

"We are an aggressive people if we do not get what we need. Just like if you were to put a human in the desert, then right before they are about to give into the hunger. Set them infront of a feast, their automatic response is to eat. Well, the same thing happens with a vampire, if we are set before a human after we haven't fed in a while. We will attack. The only way to control it, is to feed."

I nodded then said softly, "So nothing can stop the thirst?"

He smiled at me showing his teeth, as if to get his point across. "Nothing, no one."

Thoughts after the conversation

21:25 Apr 18 2007
Times Read: 628

I left the bar, Lord Noctem and I had been sitting in. My mind reeling with all the information he had given me. Some part of me felt like he was just messing with my head, but the other part told me that he wouldn't do a thing like that.

I turned back to see him coming out of the bar, Lord Noctem was very intriguing indeed. He was six feet and four inches of just pure muscle, he didn't have any room for fat. Unlike in the movies were vampires kept their hair long, his was short and wavy. His skin was not pale at all, rather it was a deep mocha. His lips weren't thin, but rather more heart shaped and full. He reminded me alot of those models that you see in magazines. He was absolutely perfect.

I turned my gaze away, just so I wouldn't be caught staring at him. I didn't need to get a crush on a vampire, infact I enjoyed his presence but I couldn't allow much more.

I put my hands in my pockets and continued to walk on down the sidewalk. I wasn't in a very safe neighborhood, but I had agreed to meet him in a place were he felt comfortable. I didn't mind coming down to the inner city of New York, but it sure made it hard to keep my nerves under control.

I guess you could say, I watched way too many movies were the women that came to the inner city alone ended up raped or killed. I was sure that since this was Lord Noctem's hood that they wouldn't really mess with me.

Surprising enough, Lord Noctem was only his name he used to identify with the vampric side of him. Besides that he was still a human being, in that aspect he was regarded to as Ryu. Yet, since I had requested a meeting with the vampric side of him, he was Lord Noctem to me. Maybe if I had been wanting to know him as a human being would I have called him Ryu.

I got to my car without much difficulty and drove off, reaching into my pocket I took out the tape recorder I had used to collect as much information as I could. I pushed play to hear his voice.

"What do you think happened to all those people that disappeared in the 1600s, 1700s, before there were blood banks?" I remembered Noctem's gaze grasping mine to hold me in place.

I remember biting my lip and wanting to look away, but not being able to. In that gaze was power, so much power that it frightened me. "I was thinking death."

He had smiled then, and nodded once more. "Most vampires don't follow the laws, they just take what they can get. There is alot of things that can go wrong with it, but when you're hungry...."

He had trailed off only to laugh at my shocked face, causing me to jump as if he had hit me. I had to take a deep breath just to calm myself, I looked down at the table and closed my eyes for a moment. But, I felt like he was now staring at me again. I looked up to see some concern in his eyes, but no sympathy was to be found.

I smiled at him just to let him know that I was alright, I didn't like the fact that I was so nervous now. It seemed that sometimes ignorance was bliss.

The first conversation

21:23 Apr 18 2007
Times Read: 629

"Do you know why we have blood banks, sweetheart?" Lord Noctem Aeternus stared at me with his golden eyes. I stared back at him, then lifted my cigarette to my mouth taking a puff off of it. I held onto the cancerous gas for a moment, while I thought the question over; then I blew it out. Lord Noctem of course wrinkled up his sensitive nose, and it seemed as if he was going to snarl at me.

I smiled, then replied "I thought it was for the people that bled too much and needed blood tranfusions."

His black eyebrows rose in curiosity to my answer, then he nodded softly. "Do you really believe that?"

Of course I believed it, why would we have blood banks if it wasn't for the sick or dying? He noticed my confusion and smiled at me, his fangs pointing out from under his upper lip.

"My dear, it never seems to fail me how humans can be so blind." He almost laughed, but he seemed to think better of it. "Ever heard of keeping the beast fed?"

I shoved my cigarette into the astray, snuffing out the fire from it. I looked into his face, and I stared for a moment trying to find the right thing to say. But even I, a skilled journalist found it hard to respond. "I don't know what you mean."

"Well, it's a theory that if you keep the beasts fed, they won't come looking for food." He held his hand out to me as if gestering to the very thing he spoke of. "Down in Australia they feed the marine life, like the sharks to keep them away from the people. Then baring the swimming areas off, but do you think that a wall and small amounts of meat can keep all of them away?"

My curiousity peaked, blood banks to feed the beast or vampires? Could this even be possible that my own federal government knew about these predators that hunted us? "You mean to tell me that my government is feeding you willingly, to perserve my life."

He didn't have to say anything, but merely smiled at my comprehension. Then went on, "You'd be surprised at what the government hides from you, and yet keeps it so keenly within grasp."

I felt like this conversation was going in a direction that I hadn't expected it to be going. Lord Noctem Aeternus was a self-proclaimed vampire, and he had a house that had many more like him. I was only doing this interview for research over disorders for my pyshcology class. I had expected him to tell me a bunch of non-sense; something that I could just write down and disregard.

Now I found him pulling me into his world, and in some aspects it was intriguing in others it was frighthening. My hair started to stand up on my arms.

Conversations like these reminded me of times were your words weighed heavily on life and death. Conversations that started wars, began life, ended it. I felt the pressure of my very tongue then, and I couldn't help but wonder if he knew exactly how he was affecting me.

He just seemed to sip on his drink, and not mind that it took me a while to speak. He was much more paitent than other people that I knew. Infact he was like no one else I knew at all.

"Lord Noctem, are you getting the feeling that this conversation is weighing more heavily than it should?"

He stared at me for a moment, then as if he understood what I meant he nodded. "Conversations of life and death?"

I nodded softly, then said exactly what I was thinking. "Conversations of war and peace."
